Since we had decided what our product would be, we had to think about certain aspects such as construction, dimensions and most of the ability to smell from in a way where it fits the user using anthropometric and ergonomic data. We also had to carry out some background research in particular anatomical research on how we are able to breath. The background research included topics such as How we used to think we smell, Egyptians theory of smelling, Aristotle theory of the senses, Miasma during the Middle Ages and Can smells trigger motion. Some sub topics we covered where about What we smelt in the pub, the history of the pub and the evolution of the gas mask.
We started off with basic prototype for the mask that would fit on the users face Fig 1. . From this we re shaped and re sculpted to fit to the face more ergonomically and after a few tries using a paper model we found the right shape that fits the mask properly to the face.
